Little Red Riding Hood Project
From Inspirational Art. I loved the idea of Little Red Riding Hood but, of course, I wanted to tweak the story a bit. What would happen if instead of in a Land Far Far Away, Red's home was in a small hut built upon the ruins of a world long gone? What if the Wolf wasn't a hairy and furry with a taste for Grandmother but a really nasty guy in control of a Russian submarine?
It was too interesting of an idea to pass up!
Red is innocent and naive in most versions of the story, but how innocent or naive can you be if your mom lets you traipse through the woods alone to Grandmother's house? I wanted to push the character design more; she needed to be fragile and young and frail, but cautious enough not to be taken in by the Wolf.
By contrast, the Wolf needed to be large, burly and invincible. He might be a classic jerk, but he's strong and mean. After all, in a world where power is everything, he has to prove himself to be the top dog to lead, right?
All the better to get minions, my dear.
Red's world might be old and broken down, but it still retains the feeling of quaint charm. She hasn't lost hope yet; in her spare time she plants scraggly flowers on whatever tired dirt she has been able to find.
By contrast, the Wolf's world is in the harsh and unforgiving ruins of a forgotten city. Cast out and feared by those in the world above, he and his followers take what they want, be it via guile or force.
When their world's meet, it will be violent and fearful, exhilarating and furious. But hey, that's a part of growing up too.
